Kia Revolutionizes the Midsize Sedan Once More with the All-New 2021 Kia K5

With the launch of the Optima 20 years ago, Kia demonstrated that an upscale midsize sedan didn't have to be overly expensive. The Kia Optima marked a turning point in the segment, delivering a mix of amenities, style, and value that was hard to beat. For the 2021 model year, Kia is once again seeking to push the segment forward, evolving its own midsize sedan at the same time. To represent this evolution, the automaker retired the Optima name and designated the next-generation model, the Kia K5. Featuring an unapologetically bold design, better performance, and available all-wheel-drive, the all-new Kia K5 delivers an impressive driving experience for a surprisingly affordable price. Here's a look at a few of the main highlights of the all-new model.

Aggressive Style: While the Optima was a little understated in its sportiness, the Kia K5 holds little back. It features a bold yet elegant exterior style that perfectly matches the car's athletic character. The K5 is wider, lower, and longer, with a dynamic tiger nose front fascia, and a swept-back roofline that has it looking ready to leap.

More Power: The Optima's previously optional 1.6-liter turbocharged engine (180 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque) takes over the lead role as the K5's base powerplant. Additionally, driving enthusiasts in Fontana and Moreno Valley will certainly appreciate the all-new GT trim level, which equips a burly turbocharged 2.5-liter engine (290 horsepower, 311 pound-feet of torque) paired with Kia's first eight-speed dual-wet-clutch transmission.

All-Wheel Drive: LXS and GT-Line trim levels can now equip a new all-wheel-drive system that actively distributes torque to the wheels that need it most, providing improved traction and control.

Features and Tech: The Kia K5 comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. And every model equips an array of Drive Wise advanced driver-assistance technologies.
