Kia Unveils All-New 2021 Kia Sorento

October 8th, 2020 by

Smaller SUVs and crossovers can be an excellent way to add extra utility to your daily drives without taking up too much space. However, since most are two-row models, they're not practical for larger Corona and San Bernardino families. With the Kia Sorento, Kia aims to bridge the gap by providing three-rows of seating in a conveniently sized package. If you need more than five seatbelts, but don't want to take on the space requirements of a larger model, Sorento should be at the top of your research list. And for the 2021 model year, Kia gave Sorento a full redesign, improving just about every aspect of the experience. Here's a quick overview of some of the fourth generation's notable highlights.

Telluride Style, Only Smaller

The 2021 Kia Sorento shares similar design attributes with its larger sibling, the multi-award-winning Telluride. With strong character lines, dynamic sculpting, and a bold front fascia, it blends rugged aesthetics with executive style. A repositioned A-pillar gives Sorento an aerodynamic windswept profile, and Kia's Tiger Eye headlights integrate with the prominent grille, create a more assertive demeanor.

Kia also lengthened Sorento's wheelbase to provide roomier rear-seat accommodations and more cargo capacity.

Upgraded Engines

The 2021 Sorento replaces the previous generation's four-cylinder and V-6 with four new available engines, including two efficient hybrids.

Standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder: Sorento's new base engine increases power ratings by six horsepower (191) and four pound-feet of torque (182). Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, it also increases efficiency to an estimated 27 mpg combined (up from 25).

Turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder: This available upgrade generates 281 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, an increase of 59 lb-ft over its V-6 predecessor. Matched with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic, it's also an estimated three mpg more efficient.

Turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder traditional hybrid: Available at launch, this powertrain pairs a turbocharged gas engine with a 44-kW motor, for a peak output of 227 horsepower. The hybrid unit promises to significantly improve efficiency, with Kia-estimated fuel economy ratings of 39 mpg city, 35 mpg highway, and 37 mpg combined.

Turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder plug-in hybrid: Available in early 2021, the plug-in hybrid uses a 66.9-kW motor, boosting output to 261 horsepower. Kia estimates it can travel up to 30 electric-only miles before switching to gas.

Generously Equipped

The 2021 Sorento's refined and accommodating interior offers a wealth of premium amenities for Fontana drivers, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an available 10.3-inch touchscreen, and six to eight USB outlets throughout the cabin. Standard safety features include Forward Collision Avoidance-Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keeping Assist, and Rear Occupant Alert.

Additional options for Moreno Valley shoppers include 3D-embossed leather upholstery, textured metal and open-pore wood accents, Smart Cruise Control, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
